Technical Description

Face shield for use with a safety helmet, consisting of a dark green polycarbonate visor with a reflective gold film on the outer surface. The visor measures approximately 240 mm in height by 360 mm in width and is secured by three metal pins to an arch-shaped tilting aluminum support.

The support fits onto the brim of the safety helmet and is held against the shell by a metal spring positioned at the back. Under the configuration currently approved by CA 43.918, the face shield must be used with safety helmet CA 40.055.

The face shield protects the eyes and face, while the safety helmet specified in the Certificate of Approval protects the head against impact from objects.

  • Safety helmet CA 40.055;
  • Tilting aluminum support;
  • Dark green polycarbonate face shield with reflective gold film.

Standard

ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015 – Z87+U6L4R5

Application

The face shield is approved for protection of the eyes and face against flying particles, ultraviolet radiation U6, infrared radiation R5 and intense visible light L4.

The “+” marking indicates high-impact resistance in accordance with the applicable requirements of ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015.

Use of the complete assembly must be preceded by a risk assessment of the activity. Depending on the operating conditions, additional compatible Personal Protective Equipment may be required to protect other exposed parts of the body.

Cleaning Instructions

The Personal Protective Equipment must be cleaned according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and visually inspected after cleaning to identify any damage.

Clean only with a soft cloth dampened with water. Do not use chemicals or cleaning compounds.

During inspection, check the condition of the visor, reflective film, pins, tilting support, metal spring and helmet attachment system.

Attention

Replace the equipment if cracks, deformation, scratches that impair visibility, deterioration of the reflective film, loose components or any other damage that may compromise protection or attachment are identified.

Do not use the equipment if it is damaged, modified or assembled with components other than those included in the approved configuration.

Before purchase and use, check the validity of the Certificates of Approval for both the face shield and the safety helmet specified for the complete assembly.

Store the equipment in a dry, well-ventilated place, protected from direct heat, moisture and sunlight.

Transmittance Requirements

Optical Protection Classifications

[  ] Basic requirements for clear lenses, applicable only to lenses with transmittance above 85%
[X] Protection against ultraviolet radiation – U6 marking
[X] Protection against intense visible light – L4 marking
[X] Protection against infrared radiation – R5 marking
[  ] Protection against welding and similar processes – W marking
[  ] Special-purpose lenses – S marking

Incorrect Use

Do not use the equipment in activities involving a risk of electric shock.

The face shield is not approved for welding or similar processes because it does not have the W marking.

The complete assembly consists of three parts: safety helmet, tilting support and face shield. Do not use the face shield separately or with a helmet, support or components other than those specified in the current documentation.

Do not drill, cut, deform, remove components or make any modification that may alter the approved configuration.

The equipment must not be used for chemical hazards, molten metal splashes or other exposures that are not expressly covered by the Certificate of Approval.

Use of the complete assembly must be preceded by a risk assessment that considers the hazards of the activity, the equipment’s limitations and its compatibility with any other required PPE.
